WhatsApp is introducing beta updates with new calling features for its users. The update includes a revamped user interface (UI) for calls and the ability to join ongoing group calls without needing to initiate a new call.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, these features are being deployed for users running beta version 2.21.140.11, starting from July 13, 2021. The new joinable call feature allows users to participate in video or voice group calls without requiring other participants to add them again. Even if a user misses a group call initially, they can still join the ongoing call while it is in progress.

WhatsApp may prompt users with an alert to quickly join the call. Users can easily identify ongoing group calls with a “Tap to join” banner in the ‘Calls’ tab and a “Join call” button in the group chat where the call was initiated. These features facilitate seamless participation in group calls, even if users missed the initial invitation.

Another upcoming feature for WhatsApp beta testers is the redesigned calling UI, reminiscent of Apple’s Facetime interface. The new UI provides users with convenient options during calls and includes a “Ring” button. Users can initiate calls and add new participants to ongoing calls effortlessly.

Currently, these features are available on WhatsApp beta for iOS, with plans to roll them out to Android beta users in the near future. If users have the beta update installed but do not see the feature yet, they may need to wait until it is enabled on their device, as the feature is still undergoing a phased rollout.
